The Fabius Gmail integration consists of two essential components that work together:
- Gmail OAuth Connection in Fabius settings - enables server-side email processing
- Gmail Add-on - provides the interface to view and use drafts in Gmail
Both components must be set up for the email reply feature to work properly.
Prerequisites
Before setting up Gmail integration, ensure you have:
- A Fabius account with email reply features enabled
- A Gmail or Google Workspace email account
- Permission to install Gmail add-ons (may require IT approval)
Setup Process
Step 1: Connect Gmail in Fabius Settings
Before installing the add-on, you must first connect Gmail in your Fabius account:
-
Log in to Fabius
- Navigate to app.fabius.io
- Sign in with your credentials
-
Access Integration Settings
- Go to Settings → Integrations
- Find the Gmail integration section
-
Connect Gmail
- Click Connect Gmail or Add Account
- You’ll be redirected to Google’s authorization page
- Grant the requested permissions for email access
- Return to Fabius and verify the connection shows as “Connected”
Note: This step enables Fabius to process your emails server-side and generate drafts. Without this connection, the Gmail add-on cannot access any draft content.
Step 2: Install the Gmail Add-on
-
Access the Fabius Add-on
- Go directly to Fabius in Google Workspace Marketplace
- Note: Fabius is not yet searchable in the marketplace, so you must use this direct link
- Important: If you see an access denied message or cannot install the add-on, please contact your Fabius representative to request access. During our beta period, installation permissions must be granted on a per-user basis.
-
Install the Add-on
- Click “Install”
- Select your Google account
- Accept the required permissions
-
Handle Beta Warning (If Shown)
- During our beta period, you may see an “unverified app” warning
- Click Advanced at the bottom left
- Click Go to Fabius (unsafe)
- This is expected and safe - we’re in the process of Google verification
-
Authorize Access
- The add-on will request permission to:
- Read your email messages
- Create draft replies
- Access basic profile information
- Click “Allow” to grant these permissions
Beta Access Note
During our beta period, access to the Gmail add-on is restricted and requires explicit permission:
-
Installation Access: You must be granted permission to install the add-on. If you cannot access the marketplace link or see an error, contact your Fabius representative.
-
Unverified App Warning: After installation, you may see Google’s unverified app warning. If you’re unable to proceed past this screen, your Fabius representative can add you as a draft tester to bypass this restriction.
To Request Access: Contact your Fabius account representative or email [email protected] with:
- Your Google email address
- Your company name
- Mention that you need Gmail add-on access
Authentication
First-Time Setup
When you first open the Gmail Add-on:
- You’ll see a login prompt
- Click “Sign In” to authenticate with your Fabius account
- You’ll be redirected to complete the authentication process
- Once authenticated, return to Gmail to start using the add-on
Managing Authentication
- The add-on uses secure OAuth2 authentication
- Your authentication token is stored securely
- You can revoke access at any time through your Google account settings
Using the Gmail Add-on
Viewing Email Drafts
Draft bodies are shown in the Gmail compose experience via a compose modal:
- Open an email, then click Reply to open Gmail compose
- Click the Fabius compose action to open the compose modal
- Review Alternate Versions (if available)
- Click “Update Current Draft” to insert into the compose window
- Edit and personalize before sending
Note: In the email’s right-side panel, the add-on shows related tasks and accounts and includes guidance for opening the compose modal to insert drafts.
Before sending: Drafts inserted via the compose modal include a helper line that says “DELETE EVERYTHING BELOW THIS LINE”. Remove that line and anything below it. (Server‑side drafts created by Fabius don’t include this helper line.)
Generating New Drafts
If the existing drafts don’t meet your needs:
- In the compose modal, enter specific instructions in the “Additional Context” field
- Click “Generate New Draft”
- Wait for processing (typically 10–30 seconds)
- The new draft will replace the current Gmail draft
Managing Tasks
The add-on displays tasks created during draft generation:
-
View Tasks
- See tasks associated with the email thread
- Tasks show title, description, and status
-
Update Task Status
- Mark tasks as complete using the checkbox
- Status updates sync with Fabius
Email Tracking
Tracking Email Threads
For the system to generate drafts, email threads must be tracked:
-
Check Tracking Status
- The add-on shows if a thread is tracked
- Untracked threads display a “Track Email” button
-
Start Tracking
- Click “Track Email” to begin tracking
- The system will process the thread
- Drafts will be generated for new emails in tracked threads
Settings and Homepage
- Settings: Use the add-on Settings to log out if you need to reset authentication
- Homepage: Clicking the Fabius icon in the Gmail sidebar (with no message selected) shows your open tasks
